Hi MFK!

Good to finally have an account. I'd like some of your well-seasoned opinions about my current tank set-up.

I have a single female jag in a 75gal (she's about 7-8" nose to tail) along with a larger pleco (I call him a he but I don't know) she begrudgingly gets along with. The jag is a sweetheart and loves to come say hello whenever I'm in the room :D. She originally would charge at the pleco when he was introduced, but he gives absolutely zero ****s about anything in the world and so now they get along swimmingly.

I understand that eventually I will have to upgrade the tank for the jag and likely the pleco too, but she seems to be growing much slower than I anticipated. This tank is in my living room and would like it to have some more movement. I'd love to have some sort of schooling fish co-habitate with her and the pleco. Is this possible? By recommendation of a friend I tried some 2" giant danios but all five(!) were eaten within a few hours. So much for "fast enough to get away from her". She sat with a smug expression on her face at the bottom of the tank for two days afterwards.

So I assume they'd have to be around 4" in size when I get them so that they don't fit in her cavernous mouth. But I worry it just might not be meant to be. Suggestions on anything that could possibly work, schooling or otherwise? I have great filtration through a canister filter rated for a 200gal tank so bio-load shouldn't be a problem. I have extra marineland hanging filters lying around as well.

Thanks!

Red-tailed Botia aren't "schooling" fish per say, but they do need to live in groups. Say 5ish. They will eventually grow to 8 inches or so, but in my experience they are VERY slow growers. If you can have them appropriately rehoused when they get to large you'll have a solid 2 years of watching them. If you are not familiar with them Google some pics. They are truly beautiful fish.

i agree with SD,they are fast and have a tall body.as mentioned she might still try to kill them.maybe if you plan the upgrade to a 125,the extra 2 feet, will give any schoolers more chance

i wouldnt put anything in there. why risk it?
