Is it even remotely possible for any species to live in my 15" wide 6 ft long 85 gallon tank? I think it would be cool to have it but I don't think there are any that stay small enough to live in my tank.
Possible to own a gar?

You could go for Needlenose Gars, but no true gars.
Even better would be some of the smaller pike characins, etc.

You could keep a florida in that size tank awhile.. but not for life.. no.. so to answer you I think you should follow your gut and just say no until you can get a bigger set-up =)
