i mean i dont know if this would work or anything but me and my friend thought of this idea to build one huge tank split into 3 sections. one native lake fish, on purchased freshwater fish, and one saltwater tank. is this at all possible? if not what are some problems i may encounter?

you could do it if you silcone glass inbeween the to different sections. if it leaks you end op wil brakish water and a BUCH of DEAD FISH.

I wouldnt risk it. Id rather just have 3 seperate tanks...

What do you consider a huge tank? 55g or 400g

Sure it's possible, but use darkened glass (or acrylic where applicable) as dividers and higher than highest possible water level.

Separate filter systems (W/D's) etc., just like having 3 tanks. Put the S/W in the center and the two F/W sides can benefit from the extra light.

i agree and how big is huge for you.

i think at the very least, there would be problems with temperature compatibility, and maybe lighting.

true, i dunno guys it was just an idea i thought would be kind of cool. i figured it wasnt possible because well ive just never seen on but i appreciate it and you guys all have good points. maybe one day...

For this to be any remarkable, it would have to be at least 12 foot long. Three 4ft sections. Even, theres not many native fish that would fit. What you could do, is have this idea, but make the tanks either all freshwater and having say, a cichlid peice, a planted peice and a oddball peice.
