Hey there...have a 50 gallon breeder I'm looking to turn into a low light planted tank. Currently have a t5 fixture at about 20 watts (too low to really do anything with), I have another fixture at about 36 watts I'm looking to put on tank. I know generally low light is about 1/wpg....would this increase the wattage to the equivalent of a 56 watt fixture?

well if u used both fixtures u would have 1 watt per gallon being at 56 watts...but more important is the kelvin rating on the bulbs??...i guess u could grow some stuff with the lights if they had the right bulbs but not much..hope that helps

With those two lights you could have: Anubias species, cryptocorynes, java fern, java moss, hornwort, egeria species, amazon swords, vals, some hygrophila, and a few other plants. As stated, make sure the bulbs are in the proper spectrum.
