My BD and now small hybrid motoro have what appear to be tiny white dots on their discs. They're in an established/sumped 180 gallon and have been for 2 months with bare bottom eating diced shrimp and occasionally massivore when they feel like swallowing it. Only other tankmates are a 10" pearl ray and an arowana. First noticed the spots after adding a very minute (5tbsp) amount of salt and bumping the temp to 86 to treat minor ich on the arowana as I just got him in. They're still eating. Did a 30% w/c last night when I noticed it was now not only on the BD. Any thoughts? TIA.

alternative shots of the white spots + the other little hybrid + the pearl. Much harder to make out the white spots on the other small ray, I've yet to see any on the pearl. I just moved my big motoro that was biting at her and he didn't seem to have any spots either.

I see these on younger black rays from time to time. From my understanding they are caused by environment or social stress. They can come and go the same day.

I agree with keepinfish keepinfish keep the water quality consistently high

Just moved a stingray yesterday, and those brighter spots appeard shortly after. Not the first time i have seen this. It is my experience too - that it is stress related.

nothing to worry about. just make sure on that size tank to keep your water changes up regularly or get a drip! 86* is pretty warm. Probably stress related.

Thank you all. I think they may be stressed due to me suspending water changes temporarily to keep the temperature consistently high and the rather vigorous netting of my 18" motoro to my big display tank. Thank you everyone.
