I found a lfs by me that carries pretty much any fish sold in the US. If they don't have it, they can order it and have in a week. They have a hystrix for sale. I signed up for their membership so I receive 25% off any fish. The hystrix would be $189. I did not pick the hystrix up today, because when I went to see him/her he was pretty white. He had the "hystrix" patterns but most of the ones I've seen were much darker. Do they get darker as they mature? He was healthy looking, very thick just didn't know what was going on with coloring. He was also on white gravel, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

i want to live by that lfs hehe

true hystrix are a light grayish/purpleish color with faint patterns. they will eventually get darker, almost brown.

Light grayish, almost a white? Def sounds like it could have been a hystrix then. I may have to go pick him/her up Thursday.

No, I did not take a picture of the hystrix. I wanted a tsn, but it was sold before I got there. They maybe getting more in tomorrow. If they do, I'll try and post a picture before I decide and possibly by the hystrix. They also have motoros and Florida rays

They will darken on a dark colored substrate.

remember that even thought they order it for you, if the ray is not healthy, i still wouldnt purchase it

The ray's in the tank already. They can order something if they don't have it. They had everything I could think of there. Aros, which I have not seen at any fish shops in ILL. If I was to order a ray through them I'd make sure it ate there before I brought it home. But again, the Hystrix has been there for a few weeks and was mighty fat, just whiteish. Something I haven't seen on a Hystrix before.
