Well right now i currently have 3 rbs in a 75gallon tank. I am having a problem with 1 eye willy.."the piranha with the missing eye from a long time ago", he is currently about 3 or 4 inches and showing some nice color but lately he has been gettin knipped hard on his fins now for the last 3 days he is up in the front corner of my tank just swimming there and always leaning like he is in danger. About 3 weeks ago i treated my tank with the fizzing parasite tablets just for saftey and followed all instrutions that go with them. so my question is my smallest 1eye willy just hiding from the other 2 very agressive piranhas or could he be ill with a interal parasite or fungus. I see no signs of any disease on the out side of his body or any of my other guys. My water temp is at 82 degrees and i have not changed it in any way and the only param i can post up is my PH and it is currently at 7.5_7.8......and he is eating normal when i feed him individually."peeld raw shrimp"......Please help any input is appreciated.:)

I just recently lost a RBP that was blind in one eye and had a pectoral deformity. If I could make any suggestion I would suggest putting in some hiding areas such as terra cotta planters. cheap and effective. Ps have incredible regenerative powers and I wouldn't put too much anxiety in wondering whether it will recover. Given the right parameters it will. But I strongly suggest something for shelter. Not only for ole' one eye but all of them collectively. They will live longer happier lives with a bit of security.

ps Also remember that RBP are skittish to begin with so I don't know that "chicken" would apply here. Live food is great as a treat but I'd try to wean them away from it. I now use Tetra Cichlid Sticks as my staple. You may try gut stuffing feeders to accomplish this though I was lucky this time around and did not have to. It is safer and healthier for your P's.

UHHHHH they have Plenty of cover IE drift wood live plants....And i dont feed them live feeders so i dont know were you got that from? And for the word chicken i mean if he seems to leave that corner my other 2 pick on him as that im wondering if he is just sitting there because they dont bother him when he is in that position...Thanks for trying to help. just dont point in my direction.

Any one have any input on my questionable problem with this piranha. I just feed him and the other 2 raw shrimp. i dropped it in the tank in front of where he always resides and he ate it before it got 2icnches under the waters surface. Should i try treating the tank with a small dosage of melafix or anything similiar?

hes just staying away from the 2 other p's because hes being harrassed it happens to my p's too he would eventually shoal with them again

I agree, he seems to be bullied for the others, I have one, the smallest, that suffered the same but as time passed by he was able tu put up with it and integrated to the others quite succesfully.

Keep them well fed, make 25% weekly water changes and DO NOT MEDICATE JUST BECAUSE "YOU THINK THEY ARE SICK", MEDICATE THEM AS SOON AS YOU'RE SURE THEY ARE SICK BUT NOT BEFORE because it can make more bad than good.

Cheers.

its because the other pirahnas are making fun of him because of his peripheral malfunction, soo hes sulking in the corner. piranhas are catty like women, they shoal together even though they dont like each other.now dont get me wrong, i dont wanna sound stereotypical so let me clarify that not all...........piranha are catty.

i was kinda leaning towards the being bullied thing also. its just he always was fine with them but lately he is just sitting in the corner and some times he freaks out and trys to jump out for no reason and all he dose is hit the glass cover.so i dunno any more input would be appreciated

when i got my 5 caribes one seemed smaller and more shy than the others and didnt shoal either, i thought if i left it in it would eventually get accepted , instead it got eaten. a few days later one had a half moon bitten out of its back, i was going to take it out but it was around the same size as everyone else so i left it in. now its one of the 2 i have left. so it could go either way, if things start looking bad ( nipped fins) then seperate the weaker one until it gets better and possibly bigger than maybe re introduce. one of my biggest died christmas 2008 unexpectedly. it wasnt eaten at all and my fattest one. its eyes bulged more than the others so im thinking it had pop eye. good luck
