Hi everyone,
I've only been a member here for a short time, but after a bad experience with another forum it took some time before actually joining. I'm glad I decided to join this community because everyone is friendly & helpful without being too critical to new members to the hobby.
People here understand when someone is new & just testing the water before diving in.:clap:clap New members need to be encouraged and not criticized on introduction, to give them a chance to enjoy the hobby & not run scared because a member/mod/admin is too hard on them from the start.

A while back I joined a forum. At the time I thought it was the best forum to get information for my beautiful Oscars. Well, I was (WRONG)!!! :wall: There's a lot of useless chatter there. The site is ran by 2 admins & 3 Mods . One Admin the owner does (NOTHING), the other admin runs the site & does a terrible job @ it. Now 2 mods don't ever do anything except short talk with friends in the forum. The third mod was just added & is trying to do a good job, but it's not a job for one person (He's carrying them all) :help2:. Well now back to the site... I wanted info on my Oscars behavior & I was really surprised that no one could answer me. I stayed & tried to be a good member & share information with the site. I was & still bothered by the way that new members are treated there when they introduce themselves & their setups. If you don't have @least a 55Gallon tank for one Oscar they hang the individual :OMG: instead of helping them & answer whatever question they may have they ridicule them on how bad their setup is. Most of these members don't ever come back after such treatment & probably leave the hobby.:( You'd think after seeing this happen time & time again that they would be kinder to new members, but that's not the case there.

I introduced my Jack Dempsey project there & shared my experience/knowledge with them up until I had little time to post there when school started. I msgd the admin about not being able to post like I had been & let her know that I didn't know when I'd come back. Before I was able to msg all my friends there that I'd be away for a while the admin Banned my IP, so I wasn't able to view the site anymore. This upset me, but I understood why. I had on more than one occasion told/reported bad behavior by members there & nothing was done. If you're an old member there & friendly with the admin then you can get away with anything you want.:nilly: The new mod added had given her some black haitian a while ago @ her request. He's been treated extremely different since that exchange (hence NEW MOD).

that's my bad experience on another forum.
Please post yours
I'm glad to be a member here now.

Thank You
Jill ;)

I hear you,, I see newbies treated harshly on many of the forums. I get that some of the setups people have, often based on misinformation from someone trying to sell them something, are insufficient for the fish they have but the attitude of, "unless you own a private lake, take the fish back to the fish store..and even then just two goldfish per lake" thing is excessive. Not so much the information sometimes, as much as the means by which it is delivered.

You got that (Right)!!!
I'm glad that here at MFK we have ppl that respect each other.

Thank You

on another site this girl had a 29 or 30gal with tons of fish, like, a TSN, 2 striped raph cats, tetras, upside down cat, puffers, and a lobster. and that wasnt all of them either.
i mentioned she needed a bigger tank and she got all pissy, and insisted that i worry about my tank. however she constantly came to the site for advice, only to get really mad when we gave her actual good advice, which generally included getting rid of fish or getting a massive tank. she got particularly pissed when i said a 46 bow wouldnt be big enough.

You must be extremely lucky if you think this site has nice people. Many of the people on here disrespect people who are new and ask for advice. This site has many nice people as well but i've noticed if you're new and have a pacu in a 30 gallon unknownlingly you'll just get flamed like crazy instead of having advice given to you

Ive noticed this forum has alot of TOUGH LOVE, yea people will get on u for overstocking but is that a bad thing?

Some peoples advice seems mean but most the people on here want the best for fish in general and they dont understand that some dont have the means to afford a bigger tank but then again they should have thought about that before.

Either way there is a ton of knowledgable ppl here, just weed threw the crap and retain the facts.

I cannot even believe the mods here let u post that even with the website name??!

GL and enjoy ur stay at MMMMFFFFFKKKKK!

i have had experiences on other forums, but never bad experiences. I will say MFK is the only site i still frequent on a regular basis. For the fish I am keeping and plumbing advice on large aquariums MFK has the most knowledgeable and helpful members and the best information.
