My Altifron Xingu's mated in my community tank so I isolated them into a 55g. been weeks with lips sealed shut and no fry sightings, thinking the fry didn't survive the transition. then a few days ago I finally get a visual of only about 5 fry. Happy to see some fry made it, i was still bummed that alot has perished. Well this morning I wake to see over 100 fry swimming. happy to see all the fry but now the male is chasing the female big time. Im going to put the female back in the comminity tank but why the spousal abuse...?

My female Dempsey was relentless on my male the last time they tried to spawn. She wouldn't let him anywhere near where the eggs were at. If he got close she attacked him. Strangely, he's never aggressive with her, but any of the other fish he tries to kill.

This has happened to me with both of my breeding pairs. With my convicts my female beat my male so badly that I was fearful for his life and put up a divider. With my Herotilapia multispinosa the male was the aggressor. I think my male rainbows problem is that when there are no fry around he tries to bully the female into laying more eggs.

I have noticed from my experience that the aggressor gets better with every spawn. My convicts are on their 3rd spawn and they work together in perfect harmony. Hopefully this will be the case for you. It's much more fun to watch parents working together to raise fry than it is to stress out over one of the parents abusing the other.
