just had a post deleted in the DIY section. simply posted facts about when a current member had been posting on this forum and that particular thread and the forum in general. also brought up a thread he had made on the buy/sell and the fallout from it.

people on the thread were asking for pix and an update and i gave a response i thought was legit as to why, in my opinion, we probably wouldn't be getting an update very soon.

why was the post deleted?

If people want updates to the thread, they can feel free to BUMP it to get the OP to respond. From there, it is up to the OP to respond to the thread.

Your post was deleted because dealt with market place issues that did not pertain to you and should be handled between the buyer and seller through PMs and Marketplace feedback.

LOFL ok. that makes no sense, but fine.

basically... his forum activity does not pretain to that thread and his market place issues does not pretain to that thread. If they need an update on him personally then they can PM him and ask him what is up. If they were asking for pictures and an update then it would pretain to the DIY project he is working on, not his forum activitys or his buy/sell issues (which all buy/sell issues should remain to the people involved, via PM and not brought up in different threads). That would be why, I didn't delete it but I am trying to explain it in different wording.

so why is it ok for other members to give updates on threads that the OP hasn't posted on in days/weeks/months, but its not ok for me to do it? if you want I will post a few links here to show a few examples.

in my opinion that was a legitimate update on that thread. not everyone has this site figured out and we have a lot of 12 and 13 year old kids who ask for updates/pix but don't know whats going on in the rest of the forum.

and you bring up pm'ing the OP. that doesn't make any sense when the OP isn't responding to pm's from other members in regards to other threads and hasn't posted on the forum in almost 2 weeks.

As for the OP not responding to threads or PM's then that is soley up to him, if he doesnt want to respond he is not obligated to.

I personally dont know about other peoples updates or the circumstances to them. I was just simply trying to help explain why it was deleted. It really depends on what you are posting and updating about and how it pretains to the thread. I personally don't hunt those things down, as its not something that is usually reported. If its a problem for you then you are welcome to report them and if the mod of that area see's it fit they will take care of it.

I am not sure which member it is that you are talking about but if say your posting a link to the buy/sell thread which does not pretain to a DIY thread then its already drawing attention. Secondly with a buy/sell issue we are trying to divert the attention and take care of the problem with those involved and it need not be brought up else where, when it is and it is noticed or reported we take care of it. To me its basically adding to a problem we are trying to take care of and we dont need people talking about someones buy/sell problems in another thread (that does not pretain to it in the first place) where it was brought up again, when they are not invloved and it should be kept in PM or let the mods handle it.

If someone wants updates or pictures then they can bump the thread, if they don't get them well that is on the OP for not posting or updating and you cant do much to force them too. If someone new does not know much on the forum or whats going on they can check out the rest of the forum, it is up to them to view what they want to view and find the correct areas. If they need help then they can post in the lounge or comments/bugs/suggestions and they will get the help they need. If they ask a question in another thread you can simply point them in the direction of the correct forum area to post that question. No need to post updates on whats going on with the forum in DIY thread that is about the project in question only.
