Hello everyone!

I have had some issues with fluctuating ph (7.5-8.3) and high nitrates a couple of weeks ago. ever since i have had a few fish die everyday. This happened in all 3 of my tanks, all of which hold garra rufa (spa fish). i have recently stablised ph and lowered nitrates, but fish still dying. some of the fish have bloody patches on their side and head, which i think might be stress induced bacterial infections, although these guys have massive appetites and are scavengers, picking out the sickly ones, so maybe they are bites. not all dead fish have these marks though.

i have inserted a uv, enriched the feed with vitamins and im thinking of dosing the whole tank with medication. i need to stop the fish from dying, im going to lose them all this rate. i have had the tanks set up for 1.5 months before any of this began. other parameters, nitrites, nh3, etc are fine.

1. how long does stress induced mortality last for? Could this be the cause of deaths?

2. do i treat the whole tank or wait for things to get better?

3. any other ideas as to what is going on, why the fish might be dying?

Thanks! Appreciate any help.

Bloody patches? Sounds bad. Septicemia? You sure it's not ammonia burn?

Just keep the tank as stable and stress free as possible for now. Please give more details.

hi and thanks for reply. ammonia is near zero, and ive checked out pics on the net, doest look like Septicemia. i cant understand why a few are dying every day. if it was just water issues, wouldnt that happen to more fish rather than a few a day?
