Hey guys, well I moved about a week ago and my poor aro had a very rough trip. Onces she was placed in the tank at the new pad....

She had 4 scales missing. A cut on her lower jaw and her barbels looks pretty banged up.

Anywhos, for the first three days she wouldn't eat and I'm pretty sure that was from the shock of moving her. But noticed there was a lump on the lower part of her tail. It's about .25" from the fin. The next day or so I noticed that there was something hanging off the lump, kinda looked like piece of skin. Then the following day the lump was still there but the thing hanging off of it was gone.

As of today that thing hanging off the lump is back.... Tried to get a pic but no luck. Could it be some type of parasite? Really reminds me of an infected cyst.

She's around 2-3 years old. About 16" long.
She's on a earthworm m frozen shrimp diet.

Water conditions are all 0, pH is 7.4 n what temp is 76 degrees.

Thanks!

Could it be anchor worms? Or maybe coating that fish release when they are wounded?
If it's swollen, I'd suggest you treat the aro with salt before it gets infected..

Anchor worm? Ok ill look into that. Any chance you know where they come from? My aro is solo in the tank.

And any chance that water temp has anything to do w this?

I was looking at my chiller and it read the water temp was 76, I checked the temp w a thermometer ( took it out due to the aro tryin to eat it) and it showed the temp to be at 72. So ended up recalibrating the chiller to the correct temp settings I wanted....

It's usually caused by less than desirable water conditions, or sometimes when you don't properly acclimate your fish to water change..
72 might be a little too low for him, maybe better to set it at 75-83 :)
Hope your aro gets better! I'm not sure what it is or what caused it, it would be better if you could show us photos. Good luck!

hi rays_fin.. you use a chiller? how big a tank is the aro in btw? good aeration and salt should get your aro back in no time.. switch off tank lights and keep like a small night lamp around the tank at nights.. you should gradually increase the temp.. prob 26 C will be optimum and what else do you feed the aro?

At my old place had an issue w the temp getting a bit too high 80+, so that's why I have the chiller on there now.

The tank is 74x26x24 or something close to that.

And now the lump just looks like a deep pimple...

Thanks all....

So been slowly raising the temp up to 81-83. Added some salt and it looks like it is slowly helping. Keeping a close eye on her. Also ordered a RO/DI system to bring the pH level that is ideal.

But here are some other random things I've noticed ( keep in mind this was a rescued aro, she was in pretty bad shape when I got her ) :

Curl gills : when I got her she had a slight case of curl/flipped gill. She was originally in a 110g tank n had some seriously poor water quality. Thought I cleared this problem when I got her and putting her I'm a larger tank and a whole lot of water changes in the first 4 weeks after I got her. But now since I moved the water at the new house seems to have a high pH then the old. Not sure if that would bring back the gill issue but im noticing it slowly coming back. Or could it be that it was stuck in that smaller tank that it has grown used to backing up to turn? When I'm sitting infront of the tank, I've noticed that she backs up a lot when she looking at me. Not sure if she does this a lot when im not around, but installing a video camera soon so I can see her behavior when no one is home.

DE : she also has a case of DE. When the room is very dark and I flip the lights on.... Her eye looks pretty crazy. It's pretty extreme. But it only looks like that when it's dark n lights turn on. During the day doesn't seem to look like anything like that. Clearly she is staring at something below her ( bare bottom tank but it is painted blk ). Would adding a tank mate help the DE? Since there would be something else in the water to look at? I've tried the ping pong ball trick... She almost ate them. Tried the flashing lights above the tank...she goes into crazy attack mode and starts jumping towards the light... Any other ideas?

Crearly my aro is a mess.... But she's an amazing fish that I would like to get her back to optimal shape. Thx!

raise your water temp to 83-85 add some aquarium salt and let
just calm down and acclimate to its new surroundings and etc.
add some stress coat and leave the lights off for a few days or
a week. also for gill curls i heard if isnt bad if you massage them
daily you can fix them and have heard/seen some people do it
but not a 100% thing. also do frequent wc but keep them small.
maybe 5-10% daily but no more then 10%. good luck to u and ur
aro.
