I've been really interested in these fish for my tank. Can I get some info on everyone's experiences and some pics?

They're retarded. All they do is hide. They spawned once for me 6 weeks ago, since then I sold my extra 3 and now my pair just sits in my tank doing nothing. They're terrified of everything, even me feeding them. I think they were happier when there was 5 of them. My problem might be that I have my them in a 10gallon, but they're only 2.5-3" and its not like they ever swim around or anything. I'm thinking of moving them into a 20gallon with nothing for them to hide behind and adding 5 tetras or something.

i had a single male who was very aggressive. he beat the snot out of my old blue acara and that acara beat the snot out of a GT so you can imagine how nasty it was. it used to attack its own reflection on the glass.
i think he was the exception to the rule though. it was recommended as a good starter cichlid but it backfired on me. all the cichlids ive had have been total opposites to what they are supposed to be so ive been unlucky.

its only a good starter cichlid if you know what you're doing. Don't mix africans with americans.

lol my bad, I could have swore you mentioned something about a african in there. After re-reading it I'm a moron.

I have a nice little group and have had for quite a while..
The are fun.. They are always out and about. I have had both reg form and Orange form..

My largest was 5" and the female was 4"

Even the drab reg form is fun.. I keep them in my adoption medium tank right now.. I have about 30 .. The largest currently owned are 3.5" and then under... Down to 1"

I'll get some pics up sometimes I this thread..They have been hard to get photo's of with the current back ground ;)

Very easy going without any provacation they can look amazing. Due to having a Grammodes i had to move a Convict with my Rainbow and it looks stressed at times but always eats, will occasionally hide when i'm around. All 3 were together for about 3-5 months before the Grammodes decided he doesn't like either.

When it was in my 29g with only guppies as tankmates the colors were stunning, and this is not the orange variety.

bump for this guys thread, I want to see everyone elses rainbows. Mine are awesome but ever since I removed 3/5 they just hide. Any advice on trying to get them out? I think I might move my pair to a 20gallon and throw 5 tetras in there and a lace cat to get them moving. Would this help?
