Also known as Porcupine River Stingrays. They are commonly found in Brazil and oftentimes occupies marshy , sandy bottoms . Maximum size somewhere around 40-50 cm ( 15-20 inches ) diameter. Whats surprising is that Fishbase mentions that the recommended temp for P.Histrix would be subtropical , from 24 – 26°C , which would roughly translate to Mid to High 70's F.

There are a lot of different patterns for this species ( as is usually the case for Potamotrygons ) but is quite easy to identify because of its coloration and body form ( The back is arched pretty high ). Please see accompanying pics for more detail.

Ray experts, please confirm what ive researched so far and change it or add to it whenever necessary. Other Species to follow.

thought hystrixs were smaller than that, about 13" max. give or take. anyhow, one thing i would add, is acuisition of these rays is usually because people want a smaller ray. make sure you identify it as a true hystrix, not the "peruvian hystrix" which will get a lot bigger.

I just based it on the Scientific name, which is more accurate than the name hobbyists and fishermen use. Potamotrygon Histrix.

no no, it was just a heads up for potential buyers of this ray  looking forward to the other species

No Problem mate.. i was just going by the Scientific name since
the other names are confusing... like peruvian flower rays as opposed to the real deal which would be p. shroederi

Matt,

She is the one in the middle on the top picture and on the right in the bottom picture.

She has grown a ton. Remember how small she looked compared to the others?

You should see my newest female. She is huge compared to all of them.
