Potassium Permanganate to clean media.

i'm planning to use potassium permaganate to sterilize my matalamats.
I'm suspecting somethings wrong with them.
Will potassium permanganate oxidize anything organic? how about rat feces. will Pp be able to oxidize it too?

I'm planning to sterilize matala mats. i bought them with discount. but they had rat bites and also some rat feces. Had problem with my tank like dopping ph for a month. now that i start to backtrack. it seems like my tanks ph crashed after i installed my sump tank. which had thematala mats. so i'mplanning to use Pp on them if possible.
