Hello, I currently have 2 cuban cichlids living in a 120 gallon tank, they been together the last month with no aggression problems , I'm certain the bigger one is a male but not sure about the smaller being a female, the 2 are inseparable just wondering if anyone thinks this could end up being a breeding pair? The male is 6 inch and the maybe female is 3 inch, I figure if it was 2 males the bigger one would slaughter the smaller one

In my opinion the smaller Tetracanthus is leaning more towards male. At around 3 inches my female had a much more round and less elongated body and her head slanting was different then to yours pictured.
Also at that size even if mine had not yet fully changed to the female colouration she would fade in and out of it.
First picture is from 6th if august 2019 and second 30th of October 2019

Okay I see what you're saying, I just find it weird that hes not hunting the other male down, usually with most cichlids I've kept if there 2 males of the same species with no other fish in the tank, the larger will 95% time abuse the smaller one

It may be that her eggs are not quite ready to be put down yet, and might be the reason she has not colored up yet.
The fact that the male is waiting is a very good sign.
The female in my tank always retained a very slim, torpedo shaped profile.

Thank you for the comment, I'm hoping they end up becoming a breeding pair, any guess on how long it might take for her eggs to be ready?

I'm crossing my fingers they turn out to be a pair, I'll keep everyone posted
