Hello everyone,

i know this subject is discussed a lot but I'll explain why I need help with this. I'm looking to get a tank mate for my 7" gulper, but I want to try and find something that does indeed get big enough to not be eaten, but is a vegetarian/will prefer pellets. I just don't want a fish that might eat the food i put for the Gulper since he takes his sweet time to go and get the food. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas? I'd like to avoid cichlids, and the aquarium housing the gulper is a 100g tank. Any help is appreciated, and yes not getting a tank mate is also an option I'm just trying to see if there are any possibilities.

thank you in advance to those who participate :D

A very big pleco could work, maybe a big panique?

That appears a hard riddle to me.

I think you'll need to target feed the gulper, for one. For two, 100 gal doesn't allow much room, so I'm thinking large silver dollars, tin foils and other larger rounder barbs, maybe balas, etc. All these would have to be almost fully grown to minimize any risk. Medium doradids of at least 12" already may work. Pbass is a cichlid but could work. Maybe Trachycorystes trachycorystes. Or a bullhead. Again both of ~10"-12" already.

Also, gulpers don't eat gulpers ;) a dozen gulpers would make for a pretty unique tank.

For movement one may try small fish like small barbs guppies etc. that the gulper may not bother with.

Hey everyone, I'm sorry about not participating at all. I forget that there's no more app so I don't get notified when someone answers a thread.

Ill maybe consider a second cat. Unfortunately bullcats are illegal in Montreal because we're not allowed to house any North American species.

For the moment a friend of mine dropped out of the hobby and left me his albino poly. Senegalus. It's about 6" long and likes to hang off the heaters. We'll see how this goes for now lol

I doubt he will last, but I could be wrong.

I too, agree with you, it is an irresponsible Cohab. A worm like fish, with a fish that can eat a similar sized cichlids who's nowhere near as bendable... not smart at all. Even if length is in the polys favor, it is bendable. The only way I see it working is if the gulper for whatever reason leaves it alone, kind of like how my curu shows aggression to anything except bichirs.

Agree with above sentiments. A gulper tank mate would be safe only if it doesn't fit in its mouth by any stretch of imagination.
