I'm thinking about getting rid of my 29 gallon in the bedroom and replacing with a new 40 gallon breeder. Thinking about going with some a couple german blue rams and relocating my zebra pleco from my 75. What would be some potential dithers that would go well in a 40 that would make a good addition? Maybe something schooling and contrast in color to the gbrs but not too common?

Rummynose tetras would be my first guess. They are common, but not as common as neons and such. The white and red would go well with the yellows and blues of the rams.

I've always liked black neons, about 20 would look nice.Or silver hatchet to add more to the upper level.

I'm a fan of the rummynose. Silver tips look nice too.

Not many tetras like the raised temps required by blue rams ... cardinals, lemons, rummynose and green neons would all do well though.

Do different types of tetras do well together? could I do like 8 of 3 different kinds?

There's not usually an issue. Sometimes they'll school together, sometimes not. I usually prefer the sight of one large school myself, but it's a personal preference.

Think I might change the game plan a little. 46g bowfront instead of 40 breeder. Going with bolivians rams instead of gbr so I can have more variety within the community. Also thinking about getting a keyhole or 2 as well. One more question, considered platies but do not want convict style spawning. Lol do they do well as single specimen or do they do better in groups as well?
