I have a 5ft 120gal cycling now. Here is what I want the stock to be. It's a heavy load and I'm aware of the potential need to drop a few. Just wanted some opinions.

polypterus ornatipinnis
polypterus delhezi
polypterus retropinnis
polypterus endlicheri
V. Synospilum
Chocolate Cichlid
Snow Oscar
leporinus fasciatus

I want all the poly's. I have access to every one of them right now. I even have a chance to get polypterus ansorgii but I think those will get too big.

Thoughts?

with good filtration i think you'll be okay with that

Yeah I would over filter the crap out of this tank. A high rated canister and an HOB. Any other suggestions filtration wise?

nice ideas. A bit overstocked as they grow!

If it's a five foot 120 that means it's a bit skinny right? That width would be my only concern with that stock--the cichlids mostly.

I think with a heavy predatory stock like that, coupled with them all being big fish, you are going to have a waste factory on your hands. Better off with a sump alongside an FX5.

The oscar and the syn would be my concern for turning if it is less than 18" front to back. You could see some bumped noses if it is less than that once they get near full size. Ornates get large as well and I have read a few times that they can be a bit nippy to other bichirs. Just stuff to think about.

Would the leporinus fasciatus be a good idea? I hear they get kind of nippy. I would worry about the polys' finlets.

Take away the oscars. They are sensitive to amonia from all the poop the polys make. As they grow into adult, they get aggresive and my attank ur smaller polys.

The tank is 60x18x30

My main focus fish wise are the bichirs. All the others are replaceable. I have read up on ornates and from my understanding, the aggression could go either way. I'm going to try it and re home if necessary.

I can't do a very big sump but it's a definite possibility. I could do something diy.

I could drop the oscar and the leporinus. I really like the syn though. Any suggestions on a good replacements for them? A couple fish that stay slightly smaller and mix well with the bichirs and the chocolate?
