Well here we are, one day before the deadline to place entries in the POTM competitions. My system for determining which photo to submit starts with every shot I keep that I think is potential contest material. I have six images in my "photocontest" folder that I am currently contemplating.

I study each one and critique it as if I was voting for it in the contest. While all are good captures, I can find a flaw in each IMO. A technical flaw would keep it from scoring high for the APF contest because of the higher standards here compared to other site competitions.

I'm guessing that other members share the same dilema this time of the month. I'm almost at the point of skipping the August contest and wait for the "homerun" shot to appear for next month. Or, I could say, the he%# with technicallities and go with what I find interesting. But, with that logic, I'm almost guranteed a low socore on the technical difficulty points.

Hmm, too nice a day to be worrying about this. I guess I'll lbe shooting into the night

bobby, I think the 2nd shot you sent me already is GREAT, I still have it, I can just use that. I chose the Loaches last month because I wanted something "Different" in the contest.

Agree with above. Yeah it's a contest of high skill, but there is NO prize, so why not participate. We are all doing it as a fun project.

Oh I'll end up participating. In fact I have it boiled down to two newer shots now. One will be a bit of a surprise, even for you Ed.

I forgot I sent you two back in May. I don't even remember which one it is. You can trash it since I'm not sure.

I just was wondering out loud if anybody else has the same dilema picking shots for a "fun" contest.

submit a photo of a peregrine falcon snatching a bird out of the sky!

That's already been done in Nature Photography back in February. :) Poor red legged stilt didn't know what hit him.

Send them in anyways, Bobby. Your pictures are constantly improving and you'll be able to gauge how you're doing.

Sometimes when it's time to submit the photo, I'll just dig up ANY photo which I feel is 'interesting' and just submit it. It's for fun!

It's interesting when you know how your photo stacks up. Also when comparing to other great photos in the POTM, it makes for great comparisons and lots of learning! :D
