Hay all tomorrow i'll be purchasing a Potomotygon Motoro and try to get some tank mates for him/her. I'm planing to purchase some Polypterus senegalus (2). The ray will be between 4-5 inches disc which is just a baby, and the senegalus will be around 4-5 inches will they nip eachother at this size? I don't know any other tank mates right now any suggestions will be great.

go for it!!!

im a Polypterus/Potomotygon guy myself. however, the biggest problem i have with these two is: getting enough food in the Polypterus!! the motoro is a straight up pig and will eat everything before the bichirs can even open their little mouths... u have to feed in diffrent spots of the tank in order for everyone to get decent meal. even then it can be pretty tricky... u need to have the motoro distracted in order to feed the bichirs.

... datnoids and flag tails make good tankmates as well.

heres a few pics of my ray/bichir set up......

ur welcome!!

sadly, its only a 120 gallon 4'X2'X2'......:(

keeping one ray alone is fine.. however, they like the company..... its also more entertaining...;)

I personnally wouldnt mix polypterus with rays ive seen people who have done it fine but have heard horror stories of the bichir biting the rays disk and doing some serious damage. Not a risk id take imo.

:iagree: apparently it's all bichir dependent...
