Potted Plants (Looking for Opinions)

When you buy potted plants do you leave them in the pot or do you prefer to take them out carefully?

I've always taken them out. Looking for your preferences/opinions and why.

I take mine out. Lets the roots actually grow. The first potted plant (Red Wendt) that I put into my tank stayed in the pot for about a month. Really started to look nasty. Thought why not take it out of the pot. When I took it out (finally) the roots were all crowded together and looked like crap. After about two weeks the plant (sans the pot) really flourished and is now one of my best looking.
