Pouring water w/sand substrate and rooted plants?

Any suggestions on how I can pour water in quickly without uprooting the plants

put a plate or a bowl and pour water into that

Yup. Plates work great.

It's not that fast, but you could get some rubber tubing and siphon it back it, you could even 'vacuum' the water into the tank with a gravel vacuum. That should keep the substrate and plants from getting disturbed.

I use a plate or bowl too when doing this.

bowl for sure...just to protect the roots better....
