I've been having problems with fish poop settling in certain spots in my tank. I have an fx6 and AquaClear 110 on my tank but use them mainly for surface agitation. I have a 150 tall at this time but will have a 240 up and running within the next month. Should I get a power head for water movement in the tank so that the waste will actually make it to my intakes?

What species are you keeping? If they would be happy with more water movement I would add a powerhead to disturb these dead spots. Another thing is that if its a lot building up reducing the feeding would help. Most people overfeed unintentionally. killing with kindness is more common than you would think :)

What food are you feeding? I've noticed some foods are better than others about solids on the bottom.

As in ..... and I HATE to say this for fear of starting a HUGE flame war ..... NLS is kinda bad. I used to feed NLS, great food, but it just seemed to leave a lot of red solids all over the tank....turds, red dust everywhere, etc. I never noticed it, figured it was just the way it is.

I got a suggestion to try Xtreme from some other users I respect, and I don't vacuum nearly as much anymore. So, try some different pellets for a month and see if you notice any difference.

It could depend on the type of fish, too. I keep Vieja and Amph's, they eat a lot, and this helped. I think SA's like Green Terrors metabolize NLS solids better maybe? I'm not sure, but different pellets helped me a lot with solids collecting on the bottom so much.

But, still, gravel vac. :)

I feed NLS cichlid formula and krill. For a treat I give them bloodworms
