The past 2 months has been a fish nightmare. A transformer in the alley went bad and the Fourth of July lit the sky early. Power lines sparking on the floor and a ton of booms.
Since that day, DWP comes out once every 2 weeks or so and we lose power for approx 4-6hrs.

Million dollar question...

IF I lose any of my stock, is this something I can get reimbursed from DWP? I'd hate to get caught on a outage when im not home to add a mobile air pump.

Stock is 3 altums, 3 moray eels and 2 whiptails.

I dont think they would really care to be honest. They would give you a apology and thats it. It is worth a try though.

I have a feeling even if there were a person in the house on life support, they would tell you that power supply is not guaranteed, and hand you a pamphlet on backup generators. Doubt if you would get anywhere on a fish claim...

I figured I'd get just an apology. Just wanted to ask since im sure someone has called up the food chain lol

You might even be lucky to get an apology, as some cooperations veiw that as a recognition of fault. You could always give it a shot, call them up and tell them you lost a fish on the last outage, I doubt they will send an investigator to the scene... For that matter, you could probably call power companies all over the country and see what kind of responses you get, they probably won't even get to the point of establishing your status as a customer but rather have a canned response at the ready.

I don't even think that home owners/renters insurance policies would cover this type of thing, but that would also be an interesting conversation to have on the topic... So, thread-jack, what do people think or know about that?

I know my home owners policy covers my property if a tank fails. When I called to find out, the lady said 'what happened, exactly, Mr. Snow?' LOL, she assumed that my hypothetical was real. Of course, I think the deductible is on the order of $500...

*How's big your tank? Power outage shouldn't do any harm to your fish nor BB in your filters if you have right size tank for your stock.
*As for the reimbursement...It's not going to happen UNLESS a whole town went against them for same reason like you! The number of complainers is the key here and if only you complained about it then it's meant nothing to them. :)

I have not lost any stock, just seeing that the section of the block keeps getting turned off i have to assume I could lose all.

Tank is a 50gl with a xp3 on it. Ada Amazonia soil w/root tabs in it.

This is why I put a home generator on my house. Expensive but piece of mind
I have been meaning to get one of those back up generators.

Nope,me neither and I doubt if we would even an apology. Here,we get a few outages when there are heavy rainstorms and they always get me worried.Luckily they don't last long before power is restored.
