Hi

I was informed today, that there will be a planned power outage in my area over the weekend. The stated time is 06:30am to 14:30pm ( 8hrs ). Working on a worst-case scenario, I could be facing 10hrs, best-case would probably be about 6hrs. I'm really worried that my fish will not make it through this :(

Heating shouldn't be a real issues, as we are currently experiencing a spell of some nice hot weather. My problem is the filtration and circulation.

How long can a fish survive without proper filtration and proper circulation ?

What can I do to minimise the damage up-front (besides not feeding) ?

Please let me know if you guys require any more information on my tanks/fish

Any additional adivice would also be appreciated.

time to invest in a small generator. a 1500 watt min for just your tanks . 2500 watt and up if u wantr to be able to run other things at the same time.

I've done up to 4 days without losing 1 fish, in the winter. I have battery operated air pumps, cut way back on feeding, cover the tanks with heavy blankets for warmth, and do daily water changes with warm water(gas hot water heater). In your case, I would think as long as you can keep your water circulating and don't feed during the outage, you should be fine.

6-10 hours, I wouldn't be too worried about. Do a water change before hand to be on the safe side, and ride it out.

I think air is the most important if you don't have a small generator. The battery air pump that Walmart sells for bait will last a long time with new batteries. You can go to Habor Freight and get a cheap small generator for about $100. It maybe be a little noisy but it should work. I have Honda EU2000i Inverter Generator(I use it for work too). It is very quiet and runs 8 hours on a single tank of gas. Good Luck.

you'll be fine, fish spend far more time than that in unfiltered water during shipping. I would be more concerned about your BB dying than the fish. It would probably be a good idea to float as much filter material in the tank as possible to prevent it from drying out.
