The :swear: apt. building I live in is turning off the power for 10 hrs on the 22nd. I'm obviously concerned about my fish. Is 10 hrs along time to have no filters, heaters running? I have a 77g, 30g, and 10g. Every tank but the 77g is planted, and the 30g is slightly overstocked. There are no fish yet in the 77g but I'm in the process of cycling it, will the 10 hrs hinder all my effort to establish the tank? Oh, and my filters, will the lack of flowing water in the filters ruin the media?

Thanks
Chris

10 hrs should'nt pose any problems,,,,,,,,and as long as the filter media is kept wet it should be fine,,,,as for the temp question,,,,in large tanks it will take awhile for the temp to drop,,,,remember that the temp dropping and coming back up when the power is restored will be gradual and shouldn't harm the fish,,,good luck!!

I would be more concerned with the planted aquariums. As for the overstocked aquarium just do a water change before the power outage.

:iagree:

I would buy a battery operated bubler for each of the tanks .... they will run 30-40 hours on 2 D cells.

They are nice to have for emergencies

Thanks for the quick replies.
My mind has been eased a bit, however the outage will be from 10pm to 8am so I won't be awake to manually maintain my filters. I have AC filters, so should I take the sponge and media out of the filter compartment and place them in the old water from the 30g just after the water change?
Kind of a side note, and off topic a little, but for all you possible land lords out there, can an apt. complex rightfully turn the power off for that long at night and in such a cold month like Nov. in Canada :swear: :screwy: .

Don't know about Cananda but iin the USA if they have to do repairs they have to do them.

Do you pay for the electric?

If your really that concerned about the filter media I would put it in the tanks and put an air stone under them and weight them down with a couple of rocks.

If you do this you will keep the water flowing over them and you should be fine.

If you are really worried go out and get yourself a Uniterruptible Power Source at a computer store should run $150-$200 US to run those tanks for more than 24 hrs, they are handy to have.
