I know some people use gas generators as back-ups when an unexpected power outage happens. But has anyone ever used a computer battery backup as a just in case if the power goes out when you're not home, or at all?????

I have a 600w APC battery backup on my tank, never really needed it, but it does keep 2 canisters, a single bulb light, large heater and a couple ph's go for just over an hour long on full load when I first ran a test on it, not too sufficient if you'll lose power for more than a day, but its something.

Most people that use them seem to run air pumps on them to keep the water oxygenated.

Yeah that's the only practical use I see getting out of a battery backup.

I have two battery operated air pumps at my house that I picked up ten years ago for ten dollars each and that run off of two sets of double D batteries they are a very good investment to have in that if you have a stock pile of about ten rechargeable batteries they can last days. Also you will greatly notice how bad things are without them.
