so yesterday I went to town (I live an hour from a major town) to ride my motorcycle with some friends. Came home and my breaker that my tank is on had tripped. I was gone 10 hours roughly. I doubt it tripped the second I left but that’s how long I was away. My three gar were looking like they wouldnt make the night.

I did a 50% wc and heavy dose of pond prime. Well the thing is, they are back to looking great today, but the water tests are so off what they usually are

I battle higher (40ppm typically) no3 due to over feeding tendencies and the gar are rapidly out growing their 75g grow out tank. But today my tests are Amm 2+ppm. no2 off the charts. No3 0ppm. This tank has been cycled and running for months. With a 6month seeded fx4 and a new fx6.

I’m about to just do a 20% wc anyways. And I know normal prime has thrown my api tests. But never have I not tested any no3 after being cycled.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

And also, the power company came out and fixed the issue. Their side of connections had loosened up at the pole. So at least that’s fixed.

Thanks

Sounds like some of your bacteria has died off but you have taken the correct action doing the Wc. Your bacteria should recover also suggest that you may have to add more filtration due to the growth of the Gar if parameters don't stabilize .

Thanks. Yeah I guess so. Just figured the extra fx6 was already over kill. But my 350g should be ready within a week. So I just need to cycle that and they’ll be in a nice new home.

They aren’t huge yet. But I don’t want to keep them in there longer than need. Ones 12-13”, ones 10-11” and ones 9”. But I do have 3 more fx6’s I could put another on there

Nice!!! I have 2 fx5s and a wetdrt rated for 300 on my 480g. I don't recall the pump I have for the w/d but it is serious. I have never had any issues in the past. I have 2 serious powerheads, but only used one in the past.
Ever think of a backup battery for a power head or anything? I have a gen and will get another backup battery shortly for when I reset up.

Once I get my big tank running I’m going to put a “plan b” in place. I have battery powered livewell aerators, but that only helps when I’m home.

If I leave even to run errands in town, I’m gone for hours. One drawback of living so far out in the country.

Sounds like you need a generator that kicks on when the power goes out. If your breaker tripped, perhaps you need more breakers just dedicated to the fish tank, especially if you are going bigger.

breaker popped because the power companies equipment failed. They admitted and fixed it. They had bad connections on their end of the meter. This was a freak accident. Not a common occurrence by any means.

But wether you have a bad storm, or a freak epuipment failure, a back up plan is good.

The tanks breaker is more than enough for the load (if wires aren’t arching in your meter)
