Okay guys. I live in pompano, and I was hit by the stupid hurricane.. I will have no power (and have HAD no power) for the next few weeks.. I really want to try and help my fishies live..

I have battery opperated air pumps in my tanks that are running 24/7, and i've been trying to feed a pinch or so of dry foods, just enough so that maybe everyone doesnt go hungry. I wrap the tanks up at night (since we got a nice cold front just after the storm.... how awesome is that?) and for the most part keep the tanks covered and non-lit.

I have a 75 gallon with an Archer, BGK, a pleco (who will probably live no matter what), and some various assorted tetras (who are slowly dissapearing...)

alos a 10 gallon with a blue florida crayfish. same setup for him, air pump and all. are there any steps i can take to maybe ensure better survival for my guys?

ANY TIPS would be much appriciated.

I think dont feed at all is better unless they will start tearing each other up.. fishes can go for a few weeks without feeding and they will still be fine. Keep changing 10% of the water everyday to refresh it and u might want to add those corner bubble filters with your established filter media so that they will not all die.... u can then just submerge the rest with an airstone under it in the main tank. Other than that, it seems that u are pretty well prepared already.

sorry..that sucks. we had power go out for four days a month ago, we borrowed a neighbors generator for the fish tanks that really needed it. Our gars and arrowana lived without, all ended up living. good luck:)

Small generator if you can, you can get a 1K portable for under $200 at sites like Northern tools.

The home depot up here in Gainesville has generators.

You could get a small 12-110v inverter (I got a 400w one at walmart). It can run your normal filters for you, as well as other stuff. I had no power for 2 1 week periods last year (2 hurricanes dammit!), the inverter made life tolerable. You'll want a flourescent mechanics light/shop light, and 2 or 3 of the lowest powered fans you can get at walmart. Used my car as a power plant for it, ran the fans, 2 of the lights, tv and satellite no problem, fans all night on less than 4 gals of gas.

Hey guys. Well its day 11 with no power, but I got a generator today finally. I got my tanks back up and running and I'm amazed to say I didnt lose ANY fish! So with these generators running my tanks a good 12-16 hours a day im sure ill be fine. Some water changes are definately in order. Thanks for all the advice though.

Battery powered air pumps = A MUST. Life savers!!

Well thats good, I am glad to hear you lost no fish
Of course you could have used the old fashion method, a couple of bendy straws and a couple hours of heavy breathing, lol.

they will be fine without food...
