So yesterday my power went out for 6 hours yesterday while i was at work. So I had my wife hook up the generator and all is well.... so i thought. right when it was feeding my QT tank with my 2 inch jag and 4 inch severum i noticed it was warm. I checked the temp and it was 100 degrees!!! fish were still alive and healthy, so i swapped heaters and as of this morning all is well.

Man, you got lucky!
Great Save!

I had to add ice from the store to cool my tank down when we lost power last September for 8 days. Worked well and the fish seemed to like it!

yea, we had a heater malfunction like that last summer.. lost a bunch of my synodontis petricola. when we found it we floated blue ice packs on top of the water (didn't have any real ice available). but it without a heater the temp dropped FAST and we lost a few more when it went down below 65 degrees 2 nights later.

i've since replaced the heater, and i check the temp in the water daily and cover or uncover the tank accordingly. and any time the temp is over 86 degrees i unplug the heater and uncover the tank till bedtime..

all of my other tanks are in the house and don't see the radical temp changes that the one in the garage does.

ugh thank god for your generator. I just bought one for this sole purpose the thought of all my beneficial bacteria and fish dying is too much I worked hard to create all their environments
