So last night, my power began to flicker. I knew there was a high possibility for the power to go out, but since last night i am getting worried for my fish. So my main question for here is, if or when the power does go out, is there any way that i can keep the temperature of the water warm enough for the fish to survive it. As it is cold in my house, and outside it is like 20* out with tons of snow, so the water would get uber cold very quickly.

Oh didnt think of blankets actually, well i am completely snowed in so cant go find a generator. But i will definatly do the blankets!
Danke mucho

you no humans huddle up to share body heat you could try gettin in your tank and huddleing up with your fish lol

There's lots of good info on this site about power outages, any chance you or a neighbor have a power inverter? just hook it to a car battery and viola!

That wouldn't work for long unless you want to constantly keep starting you car ever hour or so till the battery charges back up.

LOL< i would love to huddle with my feeshies, but i wont.
And my car is all the way down my driveway, and my moms car is snowed into the garage just would not work. And i just have a feeling none of my neighbors have power inverters. They tend to be elderly people that just do yard work. So far the blanket idea seems most practical but still gathering ideas for just incase lol

I knew it was a temporary fix but if you can add oxygen to the tank intermittently you will greatly improve your fish's chances of survival during an extensive power outage, and the inverter was the only thing I could think of that most folks may have laying around on hand. I use a UPS that is meant for computer back up, that and a timer to shut the pumps on and off every hour. If you have a gas water heater in your home you could maybe fill some bottles with warm water and float them in the tank to keep the temp up as well as insulating with a blanket???
