im looking for a timer that can set 3 different lights to different times and is a surge protector necessary for the unit it self to have or is it ok just to have the timer plugged into a surge protector?

EX:10k bulbs 10am-6pm~/~actinic bulbs 1pm-5pm~/~blue moon led 6pm-3am
"just an example not what i actually use"

Thanks!:D:D

iv seen the individual timers in pet stores and on the internet 3 of those and a 3 way outlet splitter should do it and the surge protector is unnessasary since most modern day electronics come with them built in i would put a power strip with a circuit breaker on it though so if it gets wet or something it trips the breaker rather than damaging your device or blowing a fuse

I actually run a UPS for my filters. It's good for power outages up to 20 minutes long which comes in handy. Surge protection is built in.

Not necessary, but a little help against the filters losing the siphon gives me better piece of mind.

I've an eight plug powerbar that I picked up at Homedepot for about $20. It has two rows of four plugs, and the four on one side are all timeable. I believe they can be set to turn on and off at two different times for each day. The only issiue That I've seen is that when you have a power outtage, the lights don't come back on and the timers need to be set-up again. I saw a almost identical powewrbar at my LFS, and it was over $40.

Yea I actualy bought the one like that from ge but you can't set an induvidual on and off time for each of the 4 plugs they all turn on at the same time and off at the same time, looking for something I could set up like the example I put in first post/thread info
