 It's back on now BUT..

It was out for an hour and when it turned back on the tank dropped 3 degrees and most of my fish were so pale I thought they were dead, they were mostly sitting on the bottom, even my african butterfly which really worried me.:WHOA:

So my question is what power out prevention measures are out there that you have in place for situations just as this? I live in buffalo and with the october storm we were without power for over a week so those 10 extra minute battery things are of no use to me.

Pretty sure I'm just gunna buy a generator but what do you guys have set up:confused:

I cover my tanks with heavy blankets, have battery powered air pumps that run for days on 2 D batteries, and have my tanks in a room that has a propane heater that works even when power is out. I also do water changes and refill with warm water(hot water heater is also propane). And, I cut way back on feeding to reduce bio load. I have lost power 3 times this winter: twice for 3 days and once for 4 days. I have lost 0 fish. Having said all that, I still would prefer a genny, but can't afford it right now.

I saw a natural gas generator, that made me droll I was thinking how awesome it would be to have unlimited generator run time. Thanks be to God that I have never lost power longer then 14 hours. I always worry about that since I have 100% electric house, and have no way to keep my daughter warm in the winter.

i have a battery backup, if i just use the sponge filters im okay for a bit. not a day though
