so ive remade my overflow three times now..
first time was my fault.. i said "uhh.. i can just use this leftover 3/4" pvc right" ... it was too small when i tested it so now its 1.5"
second time was cuz the check valve failed... i figured "ok they cost like 12 cents theres a chance i got a bad one
well i just rebuilt it a third time a brand new check valve just failed on me after the second time i sucked out air bubbles
im done playin with these stupid valves.. maybe its just that i cant get a good one at petco or petsmart (i dont want to go to the real lfs till im done cycling cuz i know ill cave and end up with new fish)
so im thinking of two possiable ways to do this using my powerhead.. and im not sure if either will work so im wondering if anyone has tried either of them
halfbaked idea #1 - connect one end of the air hose to the powerhead air port and the other end to the checkvalve on the diy overflow...
-i dont know if it has the power to activly "suck" air
halfbaked idea #2 - connect one end of the air hose to the powerhead air port and run the other end of the line through the overflow to the top of the overflow and then suck out any air that shows up.. and if theres no air it can suck water
anyone ever try either of these or know where i can get good checkvalves that dont blow out
