After having endless issues with BGA I'm trying to eliminate any possible issues- dosing macro ferts and trace elements, aeration and also water circulation. I'm running a JHW-303B external canister which provides some water movement at one end of the tank but it doesn't quite reach the other side creating a sort of dead spot which also allows sediment to settle on the substrate. I've been considering a powerhead and have heard great reviews for Koralia so went to buy the second size (apparently 600gph works well) before I realised I'd also have to buy a wavemaker. My question is, is it really worth spending hundreds on a powerhead just for a freshwater 55g in your opinion? Or are there any more affordable options for circulation? My tank is planted with angels and tetras do I really don't need too much power. Thanks for any input

the only filtration and movement I use on my 55G planted is an ac30 powerhead with their filter attachment. been running it that way for 6 years.

ha, I forgot I switched about a month ago from the aquaclear filter attachment to a chunk of poret foam. my LFS switched the replacement foam filter insert and I didn't like the new brand, otherwise I wouldn't have changed.

None of my aquarium shops in the area sell replacement filter media except for the pre made ones for smaller filters so I ventured online and found Age of Aquariums, and looked it up while I was there. They charge like $150 for the powerhead and say it only works with the wavemaker which is a further $200 or so. Where did you find it so cheap?
