I just bought a sponge filter for my 53 gallon discus tank should I run with a Marineland powerhead instead in a air pump? The reason I dont like air pump is kind of a bit noisy to me. By the way i already have a AC110 running with Matrix and floss just want to let you guys know what other filter I have on my tank so you guys can go from there for the advise.

I have a AC110, sponge filter and a Fluval 406 in my grow out tank for my angels. The AC110 runs every 4 hours for an hour to clean the tank and the only time when I turn off my Fluval is when I'm feeding but my sponge filter is constantly running. It really up to you and how many fish you got going. I have 12 in a 75gallon grow tank. Good luck.

You're fine either way IMO. Some folks like the bubbles and/or have air pumps on hand. They're cheap, simple and use very little watts. Power heads aren't bad either in terms of watts used. They'll just push much more flow rate through your sponge, so you'll have to clean it more often than what you would from the gentle flow rate induced from air bubbles.
