powerhead running a sponge filter

I'm hoping to set up a 55 gallon tank with two gulper cats and wondering if I had two powerhead with right size sponge filters would that be good enough? Another alternative is one ac 110 and good size powerhead and sponge filter is this combo better?

Others may disagree (and this is MFK, so I'm SURE they will), but I would go with the AC+sponge combo. I'm not entirely faithful in sponge filters for anything other than small fish/fry that need a gentle environment with little impact. I think that a gulper cat (or 2) wouold be a little much for a pair of sponge filters.
