Why does my powerhead run out of aerating the tank so quick. Its clean but it takes like 3hrs before the bubbles cease.

I have it on the highest setting but it loses the power to suck air down the tube and there are no blockages, could the tube be too long?

I always see pics on here where everyones powerheads pump out bubbles like no tomorrow but i only get that for 3hrs then nothing.

the top of it is out of the water, but any further causes an annoying buzzing sound. If i trim the inlet tube would the lower distance to suck the air work?

Do you have a sponge filter attachment on it...if so it could be that after the 3 hours the sponge gets clogged and sows the flow fo the powerhead...remove the filter attachment and see what happens

theres no attachment on it, I solely use this for aeration. My tank runs at 79-80 so i like to have an excess of 02 in there. It is a clean tank with no fish at the moment few plants so very little chance of debris.

Im guessing its a head pressure problem that the tube is too long

That would work but if the pump is built with the feature already shouldnt it work and negate the need for an air pump to force bubbles into the system.

plus the pump would be another noise for the missus to hate, she couldnt stand the last one
