Whats the best powerhead to use with a sponge filter made with pvc pipe? I have a sponge filter and I want to add it to my 75 with a powerhead, but i also want the power head to shoot out bubbles, but does it have to be a certain distance from the surface to do that???

What are some powerheads that have the implemented air bubble feature?

Most powerheads any more have the airiating feature. The depth of the powerhead makes no differance. You can even force feed the power head venturi with an external air pump for even more bubbles if you want but to be honest your better off with more serface movement for extra O2...

the powerhead will clog faster???

my lfs uses these in almost all their tanks and they just clean them out when they gravel vac.

Is this not a good idea? seems good to keep up my bio filter becasue my ammonia frequently spikes with the addition of some fish or after big water changes and replacing filter media.

The sponge will clog faster with a power head or pump running it b/c the sponge is being used as a mechanical filter (as a opposed to primarily biological when used with air).

I use sponge filters in combination with (air driven) box filters in most tanks to provide both bio and mech filtration (use air on both).

I use a powerhead with a sponge filter as mechanical filtration. Got to clean it often...once a week...as it clogs up easily...but it sure cleans the water from tiny floating debris...
