So I've been reading up on powerheads lately since I had no idea what they were for besides current in the tank. But seeing as it actually pushes all the poo towards the filter if set up correctly, I figured this would be a good idea. My question is, would a powerhead be good if used with sand? I don't want it kicking up sand into my filter and ruining the motor. Does anyone have any experience with this?

you just have to position it right, when you first set it up turn off the filter so you can play with the angling of it without having to worry about sand going into it and then once you have it figured out can turn filter back on, if its placed correctly it shouldnt kick up anything besides poo into your filter and your fish will enjoy the extra little current :)

Thanks alot Sarah! :D
I guess that'll be my next purchase for my tank. And more food sine they've been eating like crazy lately.

Powerheads are great for moving poo & they keep your water very stable. Unless you need additional aeration, I would highly recommend the Hydor Koralia line.

Your questions been answered but in addition powerheads were once used for undergravel filters...

GOD I feel old now...lol

I was looking at that exact model today. I have to wait til my next paycheck to get it though. The funds are running low. Ha.

Hey im not that old, even still I look forward to growing old...

yeah hydors are supposed to be good they are what i plan on using for my new saltwater set up and from who i have talked with they all pretty much use either hydors or maxijets (i personally like hydors better and they are more manueverable IMO)

Well now my fish won't eat pellets. Great. Any tips on that?
