Running a sump on my Tank for filtration and i was wondering if a powerhead would help bring the stuff up from the bottom to be skimmed from the top if anybody is doing this right now let me know how its working and if you got pics that would be great.

I'm curious of this to as my 500 will be my first tank with an overflow. It's a lot of area to vac every day to keep the crap out.

I have a Hydor Koralia circulation pump down toward the bottom of my 130 that's 36" deep. I put it in there when I set the tank up because I didn't think the return water from my 2 AC110's would reach the bottom to keep anything from settling out. It's working very well, but the filters draw from near the bottom of the tank.

A power head should stirr up poo and uneaten food to the surface and at least the mid water. Just dont use this method on sand or fine gravel or you'll be getting an under water dust storm. Did this myself, the reason I stopped was the fish at the time, angelfish, hated the upward current.

I have one big powerhead just laying in my koi quarantine. I turn it on for ten or fifteen minutes if I see a few turds. When I come back, they're all gone. The koi begs for food, and I unplug the powerhead and feed him. :)

Yea it would work. Like stated before it wouldn't be good if you were using sand

If you have sand can you just run the power head alittle higher and still a cleaning effect.

I want to set up a sump with drilled over flow and have a messy turttle that leaves alot of waste on the sand.
