I was given a Powerhead by a friend but not sure if I should use it in my arowana tank or not. I tried playing around with it but I don’t think the aro likes it too much. He seems to get a little stressed and rubs his head up and down the glass

Any pros / cons for using a Powerhead?

I use powerheads primarily for water movement so that waste doesn't build up on the bottom of my tank. A secondary benefit is that the fish I have love a bit of movement too, so all's good. Also, plants sway in the current which also gives the tank a more natural look.

If your arowana has taken a dislike to the water movement then take the powerhead out, there's no rules that say you must have one.

Besides, having a spare powerhead about is great. It means you have to set up another tank to use it:thumbsup:

Where are you placing it in the tank. If it is in the top where the aro swims he may not like it. You could point it down at the bottom of the tank to stop crap building up as esoxlucius esoxlucius mentioned.

The size of the tank is also a factor. A 2000L/h powerhead in a 55gal is a lot more pressure than in a 100+gal tank.

I think it depends on your Aro and how your tank is set up. If it wasn't an issue for your fish I see using a powerhead to help increase circulation of the tank based on how your returns flowed.
