Sorry to say that I do not have a monster aquarium, just a tiny 60 gallon bow front. About my set up, I have 2 power heads embedded into the under gravel filter ports so the power heads suck up the sludge under the gravel and the outlet end of the power head I have attached a clear hose and aimed it back underneath the gravel so it can dissolve the sludge into liquid form, the other 2 ports have plastic tubes connected to an air pump so the air is pumped under the gravel and pulls out the dirty water out the plastic tubes and then into the water filter.
