For those of you who use powerheads, which ones do you prefer and why. Need to get a decent one for my new 100 gal with overflow set up and 50 gal sump to help circulate water and what not. I use a penguin 1140 in my 56 gal but I don't know if that is enough umph for a 100 gal. What do you all recommend?

Circulation is circulation. the one you have now would work well. It is really a matter of personal opinion. I generally only use powerhead when I have a dead spot in the tank. If you do not think it will be enough, get a bigger one.

Your just wanting this for circulation right?, not to run the sump.

I agree that Hydor Koralias are ideal for circulation for their power consumption. If you don't want to spend that much, then I recommend the Maxi-Jet 900. It only takes 8w to move 230gph, much better power consumption for what it does than any other Maxi-Jet. Maxi-Jets come with all of the accessories you might need and are very durable. Hagen powerheads that I've used before can't compare to the Maxi-Jets.

I got my Koralia 1200 gph for about $50 on Ebay (NewWave is the seller). My Koralia 850 gph powerheads were $45 from him also. I definitely like them the best because you can mount them anywhere in the tank because of the magnet. I've got a Penguin 1140 that I just hate. I need to get it replaced......

Well I decided on the Hydor Koralia #2. Low power consumption and 600 GPH. I think will be plenty for what I need it for. Just need to liven up one corner of the tank on the opposite end of the overflow. I may by a couple of the nanos as well to circulate the bottom of the tank and give the fish some current to play in. I was thinking placing one in the bottom right back corner and one on the bottom left corner to create a right to left circulating motion.
