At the minute i vacuum my gravel once a week at water change time. I don't mind doing this job but we're all looking for ways to make our lives easier right? So i was thinking of getting a powerhead and strategically placing it so the gentle flow of water caresses the substrate and shifts any debris to the end of the tank where it gets sucked up by the outlet hence taking unwanted debris down into my mechanical filtration in my sump. I'm guessing that this is common procedure for a lot of hobbyists to help prevent substrate gunk build up. My question is....at feeding times, to prevent food from getting blown all over the tank, is it common practice to turn off the powerhead whilst the fish are feeding?

I don't know about common practice tbh, but some do cut off powerhead when feeding.:)
