Do you guys use multiple powerheads in bigger tanks? I have a 180g with just my canister outflows, a large sponge with an air pump on one side, and a small powerhead on the other. Wondering if one on the other side would be good?
I think it depends on stock and how much flow they can handle vs having enough current to move floating debris around and eventually getting to the returns on the filter.
I setup a 180 with sump this February. My return pump is a Jebao DC return pump that i was running full bore for months. This was making my returns and the water dropping to the sump very noisy. Recently i throttled back the pump to the lowest setting (still running over 900 gallons an hour). i installed 2 very cheap sun sun wave makers that have been doing a great job of increasing flow in the tank with the lack of flow from the return pump. I have never used sun sun anything, i know its pretty cheaply made but they have been working awesome.
Thanks for that! I got the 4 pack of the smaller ones, one for each corner of my 90gal to replace the Rio pumps I have. These look like the should work better (and are much cheaper!)
