Hi fish keepers!
What is your opinion about prawns as flowerhorn food- is it suitable, what is your experience, how often to do feeding?

It serves as a good snack but shouldn’t be the only thing being fed. Couple times per week along with pellets is fine.

IMO I would never feed anything but quality pellets to a FH. FH have weak genetics and are prone to gastrointestinal issues. I used the KISS (keep it simple stupid) method and only fed pellets to all of my FH's, and never had issues. That's my advice, good luck.

Thanks Kno4te and RD, appreciate!
I just was wandering what is the opinion of others flowerhorn keepers. I have almost 4 years old jumbo flowerhorn, feeding him once of twice per week with prawns....no any health issue so far. I simply was thinking to feed him more often by prawns, but obviously if I do that I will put him in risk.
Thanks again!

While a bit of shrimp (fresh/frozen with no shells or tail) now and then isn't so bad, I personally only feed my FH pellets it's really all they need.

While they would certainly like them I would personally avoid meal worms -- as RD mentioned FH don't have the toughest of digestive tracts and the meal worms' shell (which is hard to digest completely) could scratch the lining as it passes through, which is why it's also advisable not feed to them freeze dried shrimp, krill or prawns.

My jumbo flowerhorn is having prawns since I have it (almost 4 years so far) but as I mentioned only once or twice per week, sometimes even once of two weeks. The main food is Hikari, Tetra and Tropical pellets and once in a while snails (from my planted tank) as snack food. At the moment my jumbo fish is almost 14 inches and that is why I was wondering to go to prawns.
I appreciate all opinions, it is good to share experience.

Personally I would just stay your course -- as you've gotten your FH to 14" you must be doing something right. And esp. as an increase in amount of shrimp/prawns would likely be too high of protein content, best imo in moderation). When you have time would love to see a pic of your beast.

My ~3 yr old Kamfa seems kinda stuck at ~11" -- he's mostly only growing sideways now lol. I was doing twice daily feedings but about a month ago I started moving towards once a day feedings as I was concerned he's getting on the chunky side.
