Recently I've gotten into African cichlids, and while discussing my stocking options with someone from the lfs who has kept and bred them he said they recommend medicating the fish during acclimation. He said all new african cichlids that come in get a prazi bath before adding to the display tanks and they recommend doing the same at home. The bottle only lists dosage for 20 gallons or more so I called back and asked for more info. He said they use a concentration of 5-7 drops per 1.5gallon of dechlorinated water. Put the fish in with an airstone for 1 to 1.5 hours then net out and add to the main tank. Anyone else do this or something similar? If so what dose or other recommendations do you have? I know a qt tank would be much better but right now I don't have one or the space for one.

I never medicate preventively during quarantine. If the LFS gave this to them already, I would not do it again. You are letting the fish sit in their bags for 1.5 hours upon arrival home? I would not do this. No room for quarantine tank...no quarantine tank and take all the associated risks.

Ok thanks. Not sitting in the bag for 1.5 hours, they said prep the prazi bath in a bucket, 1.5 gal fredh water, add dechlorinator, add 5-7 drops prazi, add airstone, add fish. Then leave them for 1.5 hours in the bath bucket, then net out and add to main tank.
