Bichir Alley
Hello everyone. For a while now I have noticed my bichirs (two of them more noticeable than others) have small string-like worms on them. After looking and looking (and looking some more) I have come to the conclusion they are "flukes" which are particularly common in wild-caught bichirs. I don't think I have any wild-caught bichirs (if I do, it would either be my Lap, my big Sen, or both), but after looking at pictures I am pretty certain that's what they are. Andri posted pics up a while back of the exact same thing.

This embarrassingly has been going on for far longer than it ever should have. Which is a reason why I haven't posted here in a while (the same reason some people try to avoid people they owe money to -- they get all tense and uncomfortable when they're around).

At first I thought the slimecoat of the fish was coming off, so I did a water change, added some extra water conditioner (hoping the slimecoat formula in it would help), and hoped for the best. Then after a few days went by, I looked closer and realized they were parasites!

I haven't been able to get my hands on any meds AT ALL. Nothing around here sells anything that I could use. So finally tomorrow I will be placing an order online with kensfish. The only thing I could find that I think has been recommended before, besides buying Parasite Clear in bulk, is PraziPro...

Should this work well? How should I go about dosing and such?

I know a few of you guys are experienced in parasites and treatment.

Um, thanks, but following dosage instructions isn't always the best thing to do when dealing with polypterids... Which is why I asked...

I think PraziPro is for internal parasites, isnt it? I have had good luck with API General Cure & Jungle Parasite Clear for external parasites. I have sensitive Loaches & it doesnt seem to bother them at all.

When I was dosing my new baby moke, the recommended dose didn't kill the parasites, so I slightly overdosed and it worked well for me.

Don't be embarassed and avoid hanging around here lol I did the same exact thing recently, I knew I didn't QT some wild Dels, but I never realized they had parasites till I saw my fish flashing. Cured it within 24hrs of finding out.

Good to hear... I know I really shouldn't avoid coming here... lol...

I'm just wierd. :grinno:

Thanks again.

The parasites are seeming to be clearing up... I did a dose of Ich Away a week and a half ago before I read about melachite green (which lead to me looking for specific meds). It didn't seem to affect the bichirs too much when the meds were in, but I didn't want to risk anything.

I just want to do another dose of safe meds for them to be sure everything is gone.
